Convicted Killer ATTACKS Defense Lawyer After Shocking Sentence…

A Texas murder convict facing 50 years in prison knocked his own defense attorney unconscious with a brutal punch seconds after hearing his maximum sentence, triggering a chaotic courtroom scene and new criminal charges for the violent offender.

Courtroom Assault Leaves Attorney Unconscious

Jaquarius Lewis, 27, allegedly struck defense attorney John Petruzzi in the face on March 28 inside a Harris County courtroom immediately after receiving the maximum 50-year sentence for a 2024 murder conviction. Petruzzi, who has defended hundreds of murder suspects over his 46-year career, told Fox26 he lost consciousness from the attack. Witnesses reported the attorney fell backward into a chair, struck a counter, and collapsed to the floor before emergency responders arrived on scene.

The veteran attorney only understood what happened after regaining consciousness surrounded by first responders. “I was kind of shocked. I’ve done this a long time, and I’ve never had a client hit me before,” Petruzzi said. Despite the violent assault, the attorney reportedly sustained no serious injuries. Lewis now faces an additional charge of injuring an elderly person, though officials have not confirmed whether this will extend his already lengthy prison term in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Fatal 2024 Shooting Sparks Maximum Sentence

Lewis received the maximum punishment recommended by the state for the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Quincy Johnson in Houston. According to the Houston Police Department, officers discovered Johnson unresponsive in his apartment after responding to a shooting call. Paramedics pronounced Johnson deceased from a gunshot wound at the scene. Witnesses told investigators that Johnson was standing on his balcony when two male suspects walked by and opened fire on him.

Swift Arrest After Surveillance Images Released

Police released surveillance images of two suspects following the shooting investigation. Acting on a tip from the public, officers arrested Lewis the next day and identified him as the shooter. The second person captured in the surveillance footage was questioned by police but released without charges filed against him. Lewis had already pleaded guilty to the murder charge before the sentencing hearing that ended in violence. Officials have not yet publicly confirmed which Texas prison facility will house Lewis permanently as he serves his half-century sentence.
